Time for another release, this time with a heavy focus on taiko mode improvements! LuigiHann and I have been working to get the default osu! skin for taiko completed, so now we don't need to rely on the extra taiko skin for it to be playable! Read on for screenshots and more details.

  1. New countdown and comboburst (by SaruMaru) sprites

  2. New original taiko hitcircle and score explosion sprites

  3. New taiko comboburst format -- now appears above the drum rather than on top.

  4. Improvements to spinner display in taiko mode -- the spinner is now transparent, and also disaplayed on the taiko timeline.

  5. The taiko scrolling background now changes state when you miss.

  6. Fully original taiko hitsounds for both normal and soft sample sets.
  7. Fully skinnable taiko mode sprites, separate from osu! skin sprites (more details coming soon).
  8. Removed some elements in taiko mode that didn't make sense (countdown/warning arrows).
  9. Overall improvements to Kiai Time (more accurate pulsing display, less intense glow).
  10. Added localisation updates for all languages. Options screen should now have relatively complete localisations!
  11. Removed catmull/linear slider types. All sliders from now on will be bezier (use multi-part/red points for linear).
  12. Highlights are logged to #highlight even when they occur in the active channel.
  13. Editor option to open .osb file in notepad.
  14. Taiko skin update to v6 (with a much more authentic look) thanks to LuigiHann.

  15. Bug fixes ahoy!
Hopefully something in this list excites you :)!

Things that you may want to know

If you liked the authentic taiko skin and it is not being used anymore, go to Options, Skin Select, and tick the "Use Taiko Skin for Taiko Mode" checkbox.

If you want to make linear sliders now, you can still do so by double-clicking for sharp corners. The slider guide point will turn red as an indication (you can also ctrl-click an existing point).

Known Issues (will be fixed next build)
  1. Chinese font looks ugly.
  2. The authentic taiko skin update had a problem with hitsound filenames for the first hour. If you updated in this time, please remove the space before the .wav from the following hitsound filenames:
    1. taiko-soft-hitwhistle.wav
    2. taiko-soft-hitfinish.wav
    3. taiko-normal-hitnormal.wav
yay for taiko patch
Taiko skin updated as well. Lot of fun doing this version

Yay for new hitcircle *cheers*
I love the taiko skin :D
Awesome! Bug fixes!

Just a bit saddened to see the removal of the other slider types. Oh well.

You can achieve linear using bezier sliders. Cat-mull is so ugly it isn't needed anymore. Nothing lost ;).
Oh I know. I wanted to show some love for the slider types. Heh.
inb4 people not reading manuals start asking how to make a linear slider

That new comboburst is cute.
<3 ppy and luigihan awesome :D
Hmm, I should have set to force TnT skin in my Taiko maps, as normal/soft new hitsound for Taiko might not suit the music well, as I mapped with TnT hitsound when I mapped Taiko map before.

Otherwise, I'm really looking forward to this new update. Gameplay itself isn't that much problem but Taiko mapping will be changed a lot.

EDIT: I think we don't need to worry about. It's nice indeed.
Holy shit, both of them (default and taiko) looks awesome. Gonna try them once I get home.

For the time being flashlight is still a no-go, sorry.
I can say nothing but "Awesome work, guys!"
Change the Taiko hit sound back to the previous one! Plz
The new one sounds really terrible!

If you mean the default skin ones as opposed to the taiko skin, please make sure you have the "use taiko skin" ticked.

If you mean the change from Taiko skin v4 to v6, take it up with Luigi :).

Well thx anyway.
Ive try what U say before and still not work, but after I reinstalled the program the problem solved.
The new skin caused me to realize that in the original Taiko no Tatsujin, the text ド カ ド カ (do ka do ka) etc. helps colorblind players.
Because the color of the notes are a bit hard for me to distinguish, especially without texts. (Namco :()
Linear slider type was gone. :(
Wow! LH and peppy - I fucking love you guys <3

waiting for the update of FL mode!! :)
My osu! cant update :(

It seems like you might be running the wrong copy of osu!? You shouldn't have the updater and osu! open at the same time for a start.
If you still can't update, please delete osu!.exe and osu.dll and run the updater again.
It's updated now but it always says that there's a newer version available..

Would it be better if I install osu all over again?
A little request.
Chinese font should be more smaller, too big..

It says osu! b1696.

And I could used the newly implemented languages so i think it is the latest version
•Removed catmull/linear slider types.
why!!

why!!!!!!!!
I wonder if we can choose between simplified and traditional Chinese.
Topic Starter
@brmelon please delete osu!.cfg and try again (the config file _without_ your name).

@dksslqj because catmull is ugly and linear isn't necessary anymore.

@wmfchris i will look at adding this soon to pTransl.
Something's wrong with my update. It's stopped at 56% for the Taiko skin.
It's still the same :(
Topic Starter
@rcmero close the updater and run it again.
@brmelon that's really strange and wrong... try deleting osu.dll and osu!.exe and running the updater?
I deleted all the three files that you have mentioned and ran the updater again.
The problem still persists..

Where does it say you have an update available? And does it actually anything in the updater?
It s osu!.dll

The message pops out when I start osu!

I agree with Catmull is ugly, but linear is still useful.
Almost experienced mapper already know how to make sharp corner with bezier.
Double click is little bit annoying when make slider like this.

Please restore linear type.
Topic Starter
Could you please open osu!.cfg in notepad and paste the line containing osu.dll?

I actually approve of this being harder to do. It's horribly ugly and broken! (also no)
h_osu.dll = 002f5ad5fa3c2a3f218225a4597f9365

That seems to be correct. The only other thing I can think of is are you running osu! from a shortcut? If so, can you try running it by directly clicking the exe?

I always run it by clicking the exe =x

Okay I'm totally out of ideas. Your PC seems to be betraying both you and me. Try backing up your old osu! install and reinstall maybe!
It won't work!

I even deleted the registry files but it's still asking me for updates.

I guess I'd just ignore it for the time being :)

Thank you for your time :)

If you are able to let me remote desktop to your pc sometime I could take a look at it; it seems to be something VERY strange and specific to your pc...

Otherwise let's just let it go and hope it fixes itself after a reboot or something.
