Initial version of the post

osu! now has a wiki dedicated to all sorts of information about everything osu! related

you can access it here:
http://osu-ppy-sh.cinevost.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page

please and start adding content!

Now I wonder where I should start. :P
I cant seem to write anything on taiko because the link redirects back to the category and you cant write in categories to well.

nvm I got a little blurb up. First time using the wiki though :D
I am new to using wikis and things. I would like to make a category under beatmapping on how to make a decent and clean normal difficulty since I special in those, though. :3

Neverminddd~
I just added few screenies in there for now.

I need some sleep.
Damn I need a tutorial on how to add pictures and paragraphs (without putting everything in a blue code box).
>Players
Uh oh.
Ijah_old
Wiki pages based on players = no,

So anyway, this is good idea
Can't figure out how to write a new page, so I put stuff in the Modding category page instead. If somebody else can handle/edit things then that would be nice.
Create a link to it first, then click the new red link.

or just enter the page name you want directly into the URL, replacing the one you're currently on
Ah, okay, thank you both. ^_^

EDIT: Did some more stuff. I gotta write some papers now, though, so I'll add more tomorrow.
I fixed a couple grammatical errors, but there is a shitload more. I also think that people should stop adding random players in the wiki with stupid descriptions. Its probably a good idea to take the wiki seriously this time around.
So, about articles in other languages.

If I'm making a translation, should it be FI:FAQ:Installation or in Finnish FI:UKK:Asennus?

Forget that, why am I so stupid?

For now, there's FI:FAQ:Installation.
Thanks to whoever fixed my taiko description. I hope you follow me around the wiki until I learn how to fix stuff mahself.

Edit: Wrote up a quick CTB description. If someone who knows how to work a wiki can turn the category description into it's own page (so I can pictures and stuff), that would be nice.

Edit2: If someone can change the redirect from "CatchTheBeat" to "Catch The Beat" it will link to the new page. :3
aston_old
okay, i worked like a slave.

time for a little break.

i'm surprised no one has made a peppy page yet.

also @post above me, should've been Catch The Beat, not CatchTheBeat D:
added some pages

Suggestion : Have ES, FI, etc. Various "Language" Categories so we can have a comprehensive list of stuff in different languages. kinda unproductive to have 150 tags under FAQ and most of them being different languages.
Also guys, this is wiki, not a dictionary.

Just sayin'.
Finally learned how to make new pages (sorta). I moved the CTB one to a new page and added a skinning category for someone to write in. This is fun :D

Personally, I made the jump page to focus on the usage of jumps, and the slider page because there was a red link begging to be turned to blue (AKA because I was bored).

There's a line, but as long as we keep it to osu!-specific I think it's okay, mainly so that the can be linked to within the articles so that a brand new mapper who knows nothing can understand what we're talking about. Now if we start making pages for things like "clicking", "tablet" and "mouse", then we're crossing into dangerous territory.
btw why is my Palion on wiki when i ed it lower case =[
translating a few key pages into tagalog
fixed a few notable grammatical errors (holy shit guys)
also implementing a few redirects that some articles are lacking
Fixed stuff, removed stupid stuff and changed it with not-stupid stuff, etc
I need some wiki tutorial before start contributing there >.<
mediawiki forces upper-case first character for topics and names. Also, you really don't need to post your changelogs to this thread; when you make a change you can specify exactly what you did along with the update. Try and keep things positive and avoid calling other peoples' content "stupid", too.
I don't mind if people say they edited something I did, just be positive \:D/

Has anyone noticed that there isn't a page for normal gameplay?

It's just in an FAQ instead of it's own page 3:
hmmm is that have an underscore (like me) is can't ?
(and it's page inaccessible?)
I'll look into this; it's probably a big with the authentication bridge.
Is there a Japanese page yet?
I think I can work on that but I don't know how to use a wiki DX

Sadly, there's no Japanese pages yet.
If you can do that, we'll appreciate that.
Alouthgh I know some Japanese, but I'm not native speaker of Japanese, so I'll just get rid of touching Japanese part.
Hope you could do a nice job on it :D
Very usefull :) thanks

just take a page. add JP: to the beginning of the page name in the address bar. Then edit the page and translate.
Just bumping this thread: I would like to see the wiki replace the FAQ and other help pages we currently have listed on the site, but would like people's opinions on whether it is mature enough for that to happen. There haven't been many changes recently so it would seem either people have lost interest or it has been fleshed out to the point it is quite a usable resource.

The wiki still needs more content to be a usable resource to the community. At most, the guides (or at least the half of them) needs to be ported over to start considering to replace the actual FAQ. I could port them over but my speciality is templating, not writing good articles.

On an unrelated matter: It can be possible to install ParserExtensions in the wiki? It will help when making templates because it allows the use of conditionals in them and reduce the need to create redundant templates.
wow nice

Tremendously educational many thanks, I reckon your trusty readers would definitely want even more writing like this carry on the excellent hard work.
Now this will come in handy ill try and visit occasionally.
I wish more was being done here :(.
What are we missing?
The ability to replace the FAQ, guides, etc. with wiki links. A better design for the front page, and easier navigation. Much more content and activity in general.
Well I can see that there aren't so many guides written in the wiki, when looking at this box.

We should fix that.
Did you just make that listing, or is it somewhere hidden on the wiki? There should be something front-page like that. And someone should organise teams to get each of those areas updated and migrated.
I found that from the FAQ article; http://osu-ppy-sh.cinevost.com/wiki/FAQ

And apparently it can be placed with {{Guides}}.
I just updated guides to redirect to it. Now just need people to write/move/be awesome.
I could write later today, but that would require someone who fixes all that amazing engrish.
I'm not talking about writing on a single day. I'm talking about organising and motivating people, and getting an ongoing effort involved. "I can write today" means nothing to me. I am looking for someone (or multiple people) willing to actually form a team and Get Things Done.

Also your sig is ugly. Make the osu! logo smaller or remove it please :(.
Wiki Team? Sounds cool. But yeah, I guess one day writing does nothing.

Also the signature COULD be better, but the image links (logos) in the FAQ are dead. I basically took that from the site.
Ive done a decent bit of wiki work myself. and I will try to do more. the front page should look like the front page of wiki.guildwars.com in of navigation.

peppy wrote: 115z70

I did the listing (And the used template on it) some time ago. It doesn't hurt to check the history of the template :P

The page looks good and if the main page here gets updated to look like that, it will (currently) be a sea of red links due to not having enough articles/guides/whatever to fill with. But still someone can try and make a draft of it on its page.

By the way: I fixed Template:Navboxaltrow because it was breaking Template:Navbox when used with Template:Navboxrow.
Thanks, I didn't really expect them to be used together, it was for when I just wanted a centered listing. We should make sure most pages are linked to a navbox.
If you need any extensions or things installed please PM me and I'll look at it ASAP.
Just a little heads up.

jpeg images aren't showing in any page in the wiki (See Interface article)

If someone tries to see directly those images, the wiki confuses itself and tries to render it as a page. jpg and png files aren't affected.

Example:
Wiki page: http://osu-ppy-sh.cinevost.com/wiki/File:Soloplay10.jpeg
Direct Link: http://osu-ppy-sh.cinevost.com/wiki/Images/1/11/Soloplay10.jpeg
See if it works now. You may need to try ing again. If not, renaming to jpg might be the best course of action for now :p.
It works now. Still, renaming them to jpg can be the safest route in this case (and disabling ing from that extension) if more problems appear from those images.
we shouldn't be using jpeg/jpeg for screenshots anyway. PNG is perfecty fine for screenshots. Jpeg is for Photos
Depends on the complexity of the screenshot. An easy way to decide is to use puush. It is smart with which mode it chooses (jpg or png) on the windows client, and will automatically decide which is best. You can make puush save locally and then use those to directly to the wiki, too
Something to share.

I was bored with Firebug and Stylish and decided to make a design for the wiki. The results were good and looks more like the rest of the site :)

How it looks (Firefox 11 - Big image)

I know, the tabs are too big.

The CSS is here if peppy wants to add it (It goes in MediaWiki:Vector.css)

thanks to K2J http://osu-ppy-sh.cinevost.com/u/2316 for working on the storyboarding section of the wiki
I think there's a problem with the wiki .

I logged in earlier on one computer, and later attempted to through another computer without logging out on the first and received the following error message:

A database error has occurred. Did you forget to run maintenance/update.php after upgrading? See: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Up ... ate_script
Query: INSERT INTO `` (_id,_name,_,_new,_new_time,_email,
_email_authenticated,_real_name,_options,_token,_registration,_editcount) VALUES (NULL,'kcaze','','',NULL,'',NULL,'','','45b2f6f3e4b63217d392ac47da59112d','20120512085825','0')
Function: ::addToDatabase
Error: 1062 Duplicate entry 'kcaze' for key '_name' (localhost)
I assume that the wiki still thinks I'm logged in when I'm not (I'm not logged in anymore on the first computer)?
this happens when you use the wrong case to , i think. i will look at fixing this in the near future, but please try logging in with Kcaze or kcaze and see if it helps.
Yeah, logging in with "Kcaze" did the trick. Are Osu! names case sensitive btw?
only the wiki. i plan on changing that. currently mediawiki forces capital first letters (due to that being the wiki standard).
I did some googling and it looks like doing so would require some ugly workarounds. Is it possible to edit the page to include a note telling s that the first letter in their name needs to be capitalized?
I believe it can be fixed.

Slightly off-topic but > http://puu.sh/uj3c Is there a way to actually capture in-game fullscreens without it being grey?
f12? shift-f12?
f12 to just store on your picture folder or shift+f12 to .

edit: fuck peppy ninja'd me by 20 seconds...

peppy wrote: 115z70

Sorry for not specifying but I was talking ing puush for more than just osu!. I'll assume the only current workaround is Print Screen into paint and then via puush?
You can printscreen then " clipboard". Or use shift-f12. Or use shift-f12.

peppy wrote: 115z70

Huh, is it fixed already? I was able to today with my name in all lowercase. :)
Yep, I already fixed it :).
Cool, thanks peppy! :)
Is something like this (screenshot from Wikipedia, the one and only)
possible to achieve in the osu! wiki as well?

Because that would be major awesome, as well as much easier to jump to pages of other languages (if one's second language for instance has a 10x more detailled page).

For the rest. I really <3 the wiki.
I'd like to see a language selection like this. Can someone investigate how this is done and tell me if I need to do anything at my end to make this happen?

I found this:

http://www.art122-5.net/index.php/Media ... ageManager

but I'm not sure it will work for the osu!wiki version of mediawiki.
http://moinmo.in/Creating%20multilingua ... %20engines
This seems a useful link to me, though it gives me the impression that creating extra languages requires the creation of extra wikis? Or I completely misunderstood it - which is very much possible, since English is still my second/third language.

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Multilang
This also seemed like an interesting link when I stumbled upon it. If it's not the ideal, then at least it might give some useful alternatives.

Though I need to add the note that I'm absolutely NOT knowledgeable in that kind of stuff ^. That's not even my tenth language. So looking into this closer, I will leave to the more professional :c
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Langlinks_table

It should work since it only involves some database editing. The problem seems that requieres making a "hackish" Wiki Family (In the same wiki instead of making multiple wikis for every language)
Initial draft for Installation page. :?

Needing help in:-
:!: 1. Getting information about how to install for all Apple products. (Apple s and writers needed)
2. Proof-read the page. (Basically the page is made up of copy pasting)
3. Formatting the page. (Should be discussed later I think)

My idea of formatting the page is to use Template:Expand
I have a slight problem with this because I think installation guides should be 1-2 lines.
But it may be a good page to have for people to reference when they have issues.

You can use {{OL}} in articles which availible in other languages.

(How it looks)
I have a question... Should we ditch Template:Navbox in favor of Template:Group when making navigation templates?

Template:Navbox was good to make a quick table for navigation and Template:Group allow more personalization when making the templates but requires some (small) time setting up than the former.

See Template:Guides and Template:Contents for examples of each template.
but requires some (small) time setting up than the former.
No, it doesn't. If you don't need all the personalization, you can just ignore all secondary parameters in the template.

oh, since peppy is the only of the wiki, look at deletion requests please.
Request deletion (preferably renaming without the '.', but deletion if not possible) of this page. Presumably it's now throwing up a 403 as it starts with a Unix "hidden file" marker, so I can't even access it to throw up the Deletion template.

The page is now renamed. Maybe an upgrade caused the problem.
200 OK, thanks.
Hey, peppy, does the 's css enabled? I can't add any.

And check deletion requests please :<
[Request removed because it was fixed by Rei_Fan49. The newer language box (in which I put "after" the #ifexist for Thai box) was "outside" the template box, causing it to take on another different wiki coding than the coding that is supposed to be used.]

SO, thank you and sorry for taking your time due to my silliness.
What do you want to _fix_? It works exactly as I planned.
oh i see there's something wrong in the OL..
the '}}}}' not reached the end of #ifexists so if there's more then out of the OL box~
Nice work guys.

Anyway, I'm here to change the icon because I really think that weird smiley sucks.
