I'm not sure if it's because I have the game running for a really long time or what, because I only noticed it within the past few days

Yes I have. And I always have the browser up.

At times, in game it would say 20,000 s are online, altho I highly doubt that's true. It happens if I have the chat and s minimized for a few hours while I minimize the game or bring something up over it.

try check your online friends on web, is it same with in-game?

The number said on the website is suppose to be the same as in game, at least for a long time it was.

If I first open the game and check, they are the same.

I thought the ones on the website were the ones actually using the client and the ones in-game are counting the s connected via IRC.

Quite true... now the question: is it possible to fix that?

The game actually seems to get out of sync over time. I haven't had a chance to look into this yet, but it's basically confirmable.
