someone said this to me earlier. i think 10 is enough since this is the best of osu! not maps just maps you like. yes there is a difference.

though at one point in time i think we might need more votes. next year we might need more ._.

If I wanted to vote for all the maps I marked down I'd need at least 3 times the votes.

I voted based on what maps I came back to play and enjoyed trying my best to complete these maps.

the good thing of 2012-maps is at the same time the big problem of them: the general quality has risen to mediocre-good for most maps. but because of the high general quality of the maps, there aren't as many outstanding maps as there were before. many maps that are considered really good are out of my league too, and I wasn't around for the first quarter of 2012, so it actually was really hard to even find 10 maps that were particularly good.

Also, I agree with above, song and map both need to be enjoyable. Even if a horrible song is mapped well, there's no way I would be able to tell, it would feel horribly mapped just because the song is so bad.

Hate me all you want, but I have one vote left. Might as well vote Gangnam style.

Edit: might as well back up my action with a reason.

You know everytime there is a long term most played song, everyone will try to carry on that map's popularity by mapping duplicates. the fact that gangnam style was the only beatmap set that got ranked by the time of this listing is an indication it was mapped nearly flawlessly. If we're talking about maps that are flawless, and capture the attention of the most people, this song is a good contender for one of the best maps of the year.

If we remove song bias, for what the song is, the map is pretty clean. It's only downside is that it does not have the potential as a lot of the higher BPM songs have, and so song bias plays a huge role in how good a song will be.

Furthermore if i come across a song I like more, then I will change my vote, but as of right now 90% of those songs I don't recognize.

I think o'er the flood shouldn't even make the list. I played the Hard and there's just an endless stream of notes. It's so repetitive. this is supposed to be for the beatmap as a whole not just one difficulty. Try to avoid this bias as well.

I think o'er the flood shouldn't even make the list. I played the Hard and there's just an endless stream of notes. It's so repetitive. this is supposed to be for the beatmap as a whole not just one difficulty. Try to avoid this bias as well.

I think you just don't really get the appeal of the map, and as such your post is under heavy opinions. Try to avoid this bias as well.

2011 was a much better year for songs. Most of the songs I thought were awesome, they were ranked in 2011. 2012 isn't as memorable to me.

I play and prefer different songs than you guys. It's what I think are the best songs of the year, and I pick those songs on ones that left the biggest impact on me that was not due to song choice. There are some songs that are more technical but if those songs are forgettable and I don't really play them as much, then why are they in my top 10.

I could have just spammed val maps and BD maps because the top 10 is just going to be a ton of approval maps instead of maps most of osu can actually play.

Edit: Also I'm removing song bias ? o'er the flood has a huge design flaw in it's middle difficulty. Most of the song's I've listed in my top 10 have little design flaws at all. Not to say that there aren't songs that are better than some of the songs I've picked, I just don't recall them as they have not made a large impact on me.

BTw I picked E.T. because of it's storyboard images. They just make me want to play the song over and over again. The song plays a role in being good enough to make me want to play over and over again, but I wouldn't if they didn't storyboard it so well.

Pika Girl is mapped 99.5% perfectly. You could not map that mapset any better. It deserves a spot in the top 10 songs from 2012 I have played. Just because you don't like the song, doesn't discredit the map of the song.

Someone create enormous beatmap pack with all beatmaps, created in 2012 please!

My choices for top games of the year would be more accurate if I didn't have to go song by song and check whether that song is from 2012 or not. i'm sure I'm not the only one that has inaccurate lists due to this problem. I have 7000 beatmaps, or roughly 3000 sets, and 90% of them aren't from 2012. Rather than hopelessly finding which songs I have are from 2012, I pcked songs that I recalled most clearly to have been good beatmaps.

If there are more obscure songs that are better, there is simply no easy way for me to identify those songs to give proper credit. So deal with it.
