The belief makes it real.

People do confuse GD with G&R just because they get triggered by its title. Or they are not willed to learn two-three rules. However, GD doesn't really works different than OT, with the exceptions OT doesn't increase your post count and you guys have your "own thing/place" while GD is less personal.

If people have the time to read the text below "General Discussion" then it wouldn't end up in such a mess. I believe that GD should be a place where we could discuss current events, debate topics (that American Politics thread created by roshan, if ever made serious, should be placed in GD), and certain hobbies that don't fall under Music and Weeb stuff. Basically, a place where we can share our own opinions that's free (or at least, only an iota) of banter and nonsensical humour. Too bad that most of the people in osu! are one-dimensional and "meme hurr durr" people so that idea may not work so well in this forum.

Half of GD belongs to Surveys. A third to G&R. Most of the rest o OT or just wasteland and then a few lone threads actually are GD.
